Often, young people with disabilities have not had the opportunity to meet many adults with similar disabilities. In addition to getting a good education and getting work experience, it is also important to gain knowledge from adults who have personal experience as a disabled person in the workplace. Asking questions and networking with people with disabilities similar to yours can be invaluable. A parent, teacher or counselor can help you contact local agencies to assist you in finding an adult with a similar disability. You can learn how education, laws, services, advocacy and accommodations have changed. You might be surprised! Go to the Disability Awareness Questionnaire 9-12 link and print 2 copies You need to mail, e-mail, fax or give one copy to the person at least one week before you want to interview her/him. |
