Shopping for Groceries 9-12

One of the important skills that you need to know when you become independent is to budget your money and become aware of the costs of food.

  •  Do you know how much it will cost you to buy food for yourself for one week?
  • Can you estimate the cost of one pound of ground beef (hamburger)?
  • What needs to be included in a weekly grocery shopping list?

You can download the grocery cost form, by using the link below, and try to guess the cost of each of the items on the grocery list at your favorite grocery store.  You may want to guess the cost of each item at two of your local grocery stores, and then check the actual prices of each item at the corresponding store.

If you download the pdf version of the grocery cost form, you can estimate the prices of items by either checking them out online at the websites listed below, or by going to your favorite grocery store and investigating the correct cost of each item.  When you are finished writing down all the prices, you can total them using a calculator.

If you download the Microsoft Word version of the grocery cost form, you can type in both your estimated costs and the real prices of items.   Check out the prices online at the websites below, or go to your favorite grocery store and investigate the correct cost of each item.  After you type in the prices, use a calculator to find the total cost.

You can check prices online.
