A cover letter is attached to a resume and serves as an introduction to match you with a specific position. You need to express a sincere interest and knowledge of the program or job to which you are applying. This precedes an interview and may make the difference between a person who is and is not selected for an actual interview. It convinces a person to follow up and learn more about you. It creates the first impression. A cover letter needs to be a business letter written with courtesy in a formal style. It is as important as your resume. In order to write a successful cover letter, take the time to investigate the position you are interested in obtaining.
